Please, complete the enclosed Registration and Accommodation Form and return by August 31 to the Organizing Committee.  

 

Scientific Programme Information

Abstracts

Participants selected to present a paper must submit an absract by e-mail to the Secretary not later than June 30, 2001.

 

All accepted abstracts (including the posters as described below) will be printed in the Book of Abstracts to be distributed at the Conference to delegates.

Abstracts will be reproduced and appear in the Abstract Book in their original form and should be submitted camera-ready following the directions below: 

Presentations

 

Papers

 

Each presenter will be allowed 15 minutes total (10 minutes presentation and 5 minutes discussion). Introductory presentations by the four main speakers will last 40 minutes each. The schedule will be strictly maintained.

 

The manuscripts of full-length papers must be submitted to the Chairman not later than August 31, 2001. In case that a manuscript of a paper presented at the Conference is not received by the above dealines, only the Abstract will be published.

Slide, Overhead and Power-point projectors will be available for oral presentations.

Posters

Participants travelling on their own could prepare posters. Abstracts of all accepted posters will be published. The Conference Committee allows abstracts of posters of a maximum of 250 words. Posters will have to be fastened with special pins to a board (size 60 x 80 cm). They will remain at the boards throughout the conference.

General Information

Visa requirements

All participants are requested to make their own travel arrangements.  All visitors will need a valid passport.  For entry visas consult travel agency or the nearest embassy / consulate of Cyprus.

Arrivals

There are only two legal International Airports to which you may arrive: Larnaca and Paphos.  However, most international flights land at the Larnaca Airport which is situated about 45 km far from Nicosia. The Organizing Committee will operate a welcoming service outside the Larnaca International Airport on Wednesday, October 3rd. Participants are requested to contact the Organising Committee Desk. Transfer from the airport will be provided.  You are kindly requested to give the Airport name, the date, time and flight number of your arrival on the attached Registration and Accommodation Form.  In case we miss to receive you at the airport you may take a taxi.  Approximate charges for transfer to the Holiday Inn, Nicosia, from Larnaca and Paphos Airports are about EUR 25.00 to 60.00, respectively. 

Currency Exchange  

The local currency is the Cyprus Pound CY£. At present (May 10) CY£1.00 equals about US$1.53 or €1.72. Currency exchanges are available at the International Airport of Larnaca and in Banks in the cities.

Language

The official language of the conference will be English. The local language is Greek, but most communicate in English.

Letter of Invitation 

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee will send an official letter of invitation upon request for assisting a participant in obtaining a visa or travel assistance.

Liability

All participants are requested to organize their own health and travel insurance. The Organizing Committee carries no liability.

Climate 

In October the weather in Cyprus is usually pleasant and comfortable with temperatures ranging between 150 and 290 C.  We recommend that you carry sunglasses, a hat, comfortable shoes and a light jacket with you.

Accommodation

The Conference formal sessions and the registration of delegates will take place at the Agricultural Research Institute, Nicosia. 

Special rates have been negotiated for Conference participants in the Holiday Inn hotel, Nicosia. The Organizing Committee has reserved 50-60 rooms for the requirements of the Conference. 

Hotel reservations may be made through the Organizing Committee, by completing the Registration and Accommodation Form.

Participants travelling on their own should make the payment directly to the respective hotel upon departure. The Organizing Committee does not undertake any responsibility in this matter.

Official check-out time from hotel is 12:00 noon.
