Statistics for the Period January-April 2002 |
The main developments in Cyprus Foreign Trade during the period
January-April 2002 were:
(a) Total imports (covering imports for home consumption and imports
placed into bonded warehouses) totalled £814,8 mn as compared with £798,1 mn
in the first four months of 2001. Total exports amounted to £178,1 mn
compared to £194,6 mn during the period January-April 2001. The trade
deficit accounted for £636,7 mn compared to £603,5 mn in the corresponding
period of 2001.
(b) Imports for home consumption totalled £730,4 mn compared to £673,7 mn
in January-April 2001. During the first four months of 2002, intermediate
inputs imported for home consumption valued at £237,3 mn or 32,5%, followed
by consumer goods with £219,3 mn or 30,0%, fuels and lubricants with £83,5
mn or 11,4%, capital goods with £79,8 mn or 10,9% and transport equipment
with £79,3 mn or 10,9%.
(c) Domestic exports, including stores and provisions valued at £84,1 mn
as compared with £79,0 mn in January-April 2001 and re-exports, including
stores and provisions to £94,0 mn compared to £115,6 mn in the corresponding
period of 2001. Industrial products of domestic produce exported in
January-April 2002 accounted for £61,6 mn or 75,7% while exports of raw
agricultural products valued at £18,7 mn or 23,0%.
(d) During the period January-April 2002 the EU countries supplied Cyprus
with goods valued at £414,9 mn or 50,9% and absorbed goods amounting to
£43,5 mn or 53,5% of Cyprus domestic exports, excluding stores and
provisions.
