Foreign Trade Statistics for the
Period January-February 2001 |
The main developments in Cyprus Foreign Trade during the period January-February 2001 as compared with January-February 2000, were:
(a) Total imports (covering imports for home consumption and imports placed into bonded warehouses) totalled £336,8 mn as compared with £306,5 mn in January-February 2000. Total exports reached £88,6 mn compared to £90,4 mn in January-February 2000. The trade deficit accounted for £248,2 mn compared to £216,1 mn.
(b) Imports for home consumption increased to £284,6 mn during January-February 2001 compared to £246,5 mn in January-February 2000. Intermediate inputs imported for home consumption valued at £110,1 mn or 38,7% followed by consumer goods with £71,6 mn or 25,2%, capital goods with £41,1 mn or 14,4%, transport equipment with £34,3 mn or 12,0% and fuels and lubricants with £27,6 mn or 9,7%.
(c) Domestic exports including shipstores, were £32,4 mn as compared with £35,3 mn in January-February 2000 and re-exports, including shipstores, to £56,1mn compared to £55,1 mn in January-February 2000. Industrial products of domestic produce exported during January-February 2001 accounted for £24,8 mn or 80,2%. Exports of raw agricultural products in January-February 2001 valued at £5,9 mn.
(d) During January-February 2001 the EU countries supplied Cyprus with goods valued at £182,5 mn or 54,2% and absorbed goods valued at £15,8 mn or 51,2% of Cyprus domestic exports excluding shipstores,.
