The main developments in Cyprus foreign trade during the period
January-July 2001 as compared with January-July 2000, were:
Total imports (covering imports for home consumption and imports placed
into bonded warehouses) totalled £1.526,0 mn as compared with £1.320,9 mn in
January-July 2000. Total exports reached £381,4 mn compared to £358,5 mn in
January-July 2000. The trade deficit accounted for £1.144,6 mn compared to
£962,4 mn.
Imports for home consumption were £1.293,2 mn during January-July 2001
and £1.075,3 mn in January-July 2000. Intermediate inputs imported for home
consumption valued at £426,2 mn or 33,0% followed by consumer goods with
£354,6 mn or 27,4%, capital goods with £159,5 mn or 12,3%, fuels and
lubricants with £155,0 mn or 12,0% and transport equipment with £137,4 mn or
10,6%.
Domestic exports including shipstores, valued at £154,9 mn as compared
with £147,1 mn in January-July 2000, whilst re-exports including shipstores,
were £226,5 mn compared to £211,4 mn in January-July 2000. Industrial
products of domestic produce exported during January-July 2001 accounted for
£109,5 or 74,3%. Exports of raw agricultural products in January-July 2001
valued at £36,9 mn.
During January-July 2001 the EU countries supplied Cyprus with goods
valued at £712,7 mn or 55,1% and absorbed goods valued at £81,0 mn or 54,9%
of Cyprus domestic exports.
