The main developments in Cyprus foreign trade during the period
January-June 2001 as compared with January-June 2000 were:
Total imports (covering imports for home consumption and imports placed
into bonded warehouses) totalled £1.373,2 mn as compared with £1.136,4 mn in
January-June 2000. Total exports reached £328,0 mn compared to £306,9 mn in
January-June 2000. The trade deficit accounted for £1.045,3 mn compared to
£829,6 mn.
Imports for home consumption were £1.176,0 mn during January-June 2001
and £917,4 mn in January-June 2000. Intermediate inputs imported for home
consumption valued at £361,6 mn or 30,8% followed by consumer goods with
£307,2 mn or 26,1%, transport equipment with £222,2 mn or 18,9%, capital
goods with £136,6 mn or 11,6% and fuels and lubricants with £133,5 mn or
11,4%.
Domestic exports including shipstores, valued at £132,6 mn as compared
with £127,1 mn in January-June 2000, whilst re-exports including shipstores,
were £195,3 mn compared to £179,7 mn in January-June 2000. Industrial
products of domestic produce exported during January-June 2001 accounted for
£90,9 mn or 71,8%. Exports of raw agricultural products in January-June 2001
valued at £34,8mn.
During January-June 2001 the EU countries supplied Cyprus with goods
valued at £698,5 mn or 50,9% and absorbed goods valued at £70,0 mn or 55,4%
of Cyprus domestic exports.
