Foreign Trade Statistics for the
Period January-March 2001 |
The main developments in Cyprus Foreign Trade during the
period January-March 2001 as compared with January-March 2000, were:

Total imports (covering imports for home consumption
and imports placed into bonded warehouses) totalled £614,6 mn as
compared with £507,9 mn in January-March 2000. Total exports amounted
to £143,9 mn compared to £144,4 mn in January-March 2000. The trade
deficit accounted for £470,7 mn compared to £363,3 mn.

Imports for home consumption increased to £523,5 mn
during January-March 2001 compared to £415,1 mn in January-March
2000. Intermediate inputs imported for home consumption valued at
£172,9 mn or 33,0% followed by consumer goods with £131,3 mn or
25,1%, transport equipment with £88,6 mn or 16,9%, capital goods with
£62,8 mn or 12,0% and fuels and lubricants with £61,8 mn or 11,8%.

Domestic exports including shipstores, were £56,3 mn
as compared with £58,1 mn in January-March 2000 and re-exports,
including shipstores, £87,6 mn compared to £86,5 mn in January-March
2000. Industrial products of domestic produce exported during
January-March 2001 accounted for £41,7 mn or 77,4%. Exports of raw
agricultural products in January-March 2001 valued at £11,8 mn.

During January-March 2001 the EU countries supplied
Cyprus with goods valued at £305,0 mn or 49,6% and absorbed goods
valued at £28,1 mn or 52,1% of Cyprus domestic exports excluding
shipstores,.
