1. The Statistical Service announces that in January 2000 the number of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including excursionists) reached 107.622 recording an increase of 10,7% compared to the corresponding month last year.
2. Arrivals of tourists reached 63.553 in January 2000 compared to 57.740 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 10,1%.
   
   The main countries of tourists arrivals in January 2000 were the United Kingdom with 51,6%, Germany with 7,8%, Greece with 6,8%, Russia with 5,3%, Belgium with 2,4%, Austria with 1,9%, the United States of America with 1,8% and Israel with 1,7%. The overwhelming majority, 76,6% of tourists arrivals was from countries of the European Union.
3. In January 2000, 37.857 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad compared to 34.106 in the corresponding month last year recording an increase of 11,0%.
4. In January 2000 the number of same-day visitors reached 3.352 of which 1.042 were same-day tourists and 2.310 excursionists. Long-term immigrants numbered 1.069 and short-term immigrants 1.790.
