The Statistical Service announces that it has issued the report 
      entitled "Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-June 
      2002.
    2. The main developments in the first six months of 2002 compared to the 
    same period of 2001, were:
    
      (a) The total registrations of motor vehicles during the first 
      six months of 2002 increased by 7,7% to 19.721 from 18.319 vehicles in the 
      same period of 2001.
      (b) Private saloon cars increased to 11.534 from 9.999 in 
      January-June 2001, i.e. there was an increase of 15,4%. Of the total 
      private saloon cars 3.331 vehicles or 28,9% were new and 8.203 vehicles or 
      71,1% were used vehicles.
      (c) Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 3,6% to 4.429 from 
      last year’s 4.275 vehicles. Light goods vehicles increased by 3,3% 
      to 3.984 and heavy goods vehicles increased by 6,7% to 445 in 
      January-June 2002.
      (d) Mechanised cycles decreased by 19,4% and totalled 2.074 
      compared to 2.573 in January-June 2001.
