The Statistical Service announces that it has issued the report
entitled "Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-September
2002.
2. The main developments in the first nine months of 2002 compared to the
same period of 2001, were:
(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles during the first
nine months of 2002 increased by 3,1% to 30.640 from 29.721 vehicles in
the same period of 2001.
(b) Private saloon cars increased to 19.093 from 16.033 in
January-September 2001, i.e. there was an increase of 19,1%. Of the total
private saloon cars 5.506 vehicles or 28,8% were new and 13.587 vehicles
or 71,2% were used vehicles.
(c) Goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 5,5% to 5.881 from
last year’s 6.225 vehicles. Light goods vehicles decreased by 7,3%
to 5.192 while heavy goods vehicles increased by 10,2% to 689 in
January-September 2002.
(d) Mechanised cycles decreased by 16,5% and totalled 3.277
compared to 3.924 in January-September 2001.
