          President Clinton Names Kenneth Brill
          To Be Ambassador To The Republic Of Cyprus

     The President today announced his intent to nominate Kenneth 
C. Brill of California, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign 
Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, as Ambassador to the 
Republic of Cyprus.

     Currently the Executive Secretary of the Department of 
State, Mr. Brill's overseas experience includes serving as Deputy 
Chief of Mission and Charge of the U.S. Embassy in India, Consul 
General of the U.S. Consulate General in Calcutta, India, 
political counselor of the U.S. Embassy in Jordan, and a junior 
embassy officer at the U.S. Embassy in Accra, Ghana.  In 
Washington, Mr. Brill's assignments have included executive 
assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, 
Director of the Office of Egyptian Affairs, and Country Officer 
for Sudan and Uganda.

     Mr. Brill is married to the former Mary Lee Pfeiffer and has 
two children, Katherine, age 12, and Christopher, age 9.  A 
graduate of Ohio University, Mr. Brill received a Mba from the 
University of California-Berkeley after completing his military 
service in the U.S. Army.  He was born in Texas in 1947 and 
speaks French and German.
