The
Civil Registry and Migration Department is the
competent Department to issue entry and residence
permits for alien students and pupils in
Cyprus.
Student permits for
aliens are granted only for attending Private
Tertiary Education schools (PTES) which are
registered in the relevant Register of the
Ministry of Education and Culture.
Pupil permits for
aliens are granted for attending registered
Secondary and Primary Education
Institutes.
Applications in the
above cases are submitted by the Educational
Institutes the aliens will attend, according to
the relevant circulars sent to the Educational
Institutes concerned.
Attendance by aliens
concerns academic years of studies and is
governed by the regulations made for this purpose
by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The
entry, residence or practical training of alien
students come under the jurisdiction of
the
Civil Registry and
Migration Department and every student should
possess a relevant residence permit from this
Department.
The above permit is
issued for a specific Educational Institute the
alien student will attend and any change of the
Educational Institute means that a new residence
permit should be secured.
School attendance is
compulsory and concerns the programmes and
disciplines of study approved by the Ministry of
Education and Culture. Furthermore, the
studentship should be full-time, daily and
without permission to work.
The aliens should
get registered with the District Police Alien
Branch within seven days as from the day of
arrival in Cyprus. They are also obliged to
proceed for medical examinations on the first
working day after their arrival, to submit the
relevant medical certificates to the District
Police Alien Branch, within one week from the
date of arrival and to apply for extension of
their permit on the application Form
