Discovered off the coast of Kyrenia on Saturday 20th of November 1965 by Aris Kariolou.
Unable to take accurate bearings due to the weather conditions at the time, it took Aris a further 200 dives and one and a half years to rediscover its location.

Between
1967 to 1974 it was raised from the seabed, preserved and restored
The restored ship is currently on display in Kyrenia Castle

In 1985 a replica, the Kyrenia II was built and launched in Athens

In 2003 a further replica was built by the Kyrenia Chrysocava Cultural Foundation

This ship was named Kyrenia-Liberty, encapsulating our hopes for the future, when we hope she will be able to sail back to her home port.

When in Cyprus she is berthed in Larnaca marina.
Currently she is berthed in Piraeus and we hope that she will be back in Cyprus by the end of September
