RSS does it work?
by Guest User - Wednesday, 6 September 2006, 08:32 AM
Either I am doing something wrong or the RSS doesn't work. I did manage to add the RSS from another site but not from kypros.org.

It would make seeing new posts oh so much easier! Any info will be appreciated smile

RSS - There is some discussion as to what RSS stands for, but most people plump for 'Really Simple Syndication'. In essence, the feeds themselves are just web pages, designed to be read by computers rather than people.

RSS feeds are usually for News Feeds to your computer.
News feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest headlines and video in one place, as soon as its published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.

You usually have to subscribe (FREE) to these services. The BBC in Scotland & I think in the rest of the UK has these. Its grest for weather and travel information.

Hope this long winded reply helps. approve

Wow. Now I can see why they call this forum 'technical questions'.

Subscribing to forums (so you supposedly get an email whenever stuff is posted) is one the features of the site that doesn't work.
Neither can you search for recent posts.
The only way to find recent posts is to visit every forum in turn......

Thanks Stuart! It's good to know that it wasn't me being incredibly stupid. After all I have banged my head on the wall enough times these past few days anyway, I don't want to dent the thing (I am renting the place after all).

I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way (Rivka if you read this your forum has spoilt me major time!)

I discovered a way of finding posts to the lesson forums.

Go to each course in turn and in the "search forums" box (top right) put +* (thats a plus sign and an asterisk).

Click on the search forums button and you will get posts, lots of them. The best bit is that they are sorted to most recent first!.

Since there are 7 courses this is a lot quicker than scanning 105 lesson forums separately.

In case you're wondering, I think this search acts as a regular expression wildcard - finding any post with any word in it. cool
But the lack of documentation means there's no way to be sure!

If you try the same thing from the LearnGreek homepage you'll get a search of the non-lesson forums. To search within the lesson forums you have to go into each course.

regards
Stuart
