600 Modern Greek Verbs--conjugated
by Guest User - Wednesday, 20 December 2006, 09:46 PM
If anyone is interested in getting a book (over 600 pages thick) of 600 common Greek verbs with all the tenses conjugated for you, I can highly recommend the book "600 Modern Greek Verbs" by Carmen Capri-Karka and available through Pella Publishing in New York.

The base form of the verb is in English, as in "to eat" and the tenses are identified in English, as in "continuous past" etc. However, the tenses are not translated, so you should be a bit more than a beginner perhaps to use it. On the other hand, you do not need to know much English either.

The book is published by Pella Publishing and printed by Athens Printing Company which are both at the same location.

You can fax Pella to send you a copy, which costs $35 plus shipping. I had mine shipped "surface" to Sweden for $6 and it was supposed to take 4-6 weeks. I got it in 5 days!

Pella doesn't have email let alone electronic copies. From what I understand, the company started over 50 years ago and is still using the same techniques as then! My impression is that they publish mostly for university Greek courses and scholars studying Greek. It is a very small operation.

You can get the book through Amazon (US) at the same price but Pella ships it the same day and with no hassles. You can send a money order directly to them but that is a very expensive choice since a money order can cost a fortune. (Where I live they wanted $25 for one!)

If you want to use a credit card, Amazon is probably best. If you live in Europe you can try the UK Amazon but the book is more expensive there.

If you want it fast, I suggest going via Pella. You might have to pay duty on it. (I didn't.)

Good luck
