When Greek people read Ancient Greek do they prounounce everything in the modern Greek way or in the ancient way, as they try to do in other languages. i.e., do I pronounce "auto" as "afto" or "auto"?? I have decided I need to learn ancient greek (this is why) |

Contemporary Greeks when reading ancient texts pronounce them according to Modern pronunciation. Regards, Greg Brush |

That's what I thought (from our pronunciation of Biblical Greek in Church, at least)...Thank you! I think there is a real benefit to that; namely, you can more easily adapt the ancient Greek roots to supplement your understanding of the modern language, when you are pronouncing the words the same. |
