In lesson 20 that deals with the accusative case these both forms appear: Διαβαζω εφημεριδα. Διαβαζω την εφημεριδα. So, are both correct? Can anyone help me with this? |

Tes, they're both correct. They just vary by the use of the definite article: Διαβαζω εφημεριδα. = I read a newspaper (i.e., not any specific newspaper). Διαβαζω την εφημεριδα. = I read the newspaper (i.e., the specific newspaper in question). Regards, Greg Brush |

Thank you Greg. But if this is the case, shouldn't it be Διαβαζω μια εφημεριδα in case of not any specific newspaper? |

No, Διαβάζω μια εφημερίδα. = I read one newspaper (as opposed to a different number of newspapers). -while- Διαβάζω εφημερίδα. = I read a newspaper (in general, not any specific name or number). Take a look at "ένα" in Discussion Forum 8 where this issue is discussed further. Regards, Greg Brush |
