Happy Greek Independence Day, Everyone! But can anyone tell me the proper greeting for Greek Independence Day? Is it just something like Ευτιχισμενη Εικοσιπεντε Μαρτιου! |

Hi Andrew & Happy Greek Independance Day to you as well!  There really isn't anything wrong with the sentence you propose and it does make sense to a Greek reader, but the 25th of March isn't really the sort of celebration where we greet others in this manner. The 25th of March is one of the more significant dates in our history, marking freedom from oppression and a sign of national pride. For example - we say "Happy New Year" - but we don't really say "Happy 25th March" (although it makes perfect sense) A common way of recognising this date is... "Ζήτω η εικοστή πέμπτη Μαρτίου!" ( a sort of "hip hip hooray" if you like) Hope this helps - maybe others can offer alternative views on this as well Cheerio George |
