I am trying to write to a penpal in Greek.

I want to say I hope you had a good Summer despite you having to study. Using online translation I got: Ελπίζω να είχατε ένα καλό καλοκαίρι παρά το γεγονός ότι για τη μελέτη;

I suspect this is formal rather than informal? Can anyone help me translate and assist with making it informal.
