| I would like to ask if there are only two ways of translating the following sentence in Greek: "I should go to Rome next Friday, but I won't". I was told I can only translate it as έπρεπε να πάω στη Ρώμη.... or θα έπρεπε να είχα πάει....That puzzled me because I'd translate these two Greek sentences as "I should have gone". Could you help me understand, please? Thanks a lot! |

Yes you are right. Your teranslation is the correct one. I don't know who told you that, since έπρεπε and θα έπρεπε να είχα are both refered to the past. The correct translation is: "πρέπει να πάω στη Ρώμη την επόμενη Πρασκευή, αλλά δεν θα το κάνω". |

Thanks a lot for your answer and your help! A Greek friend of mine told me that! I still have doubts though, as I don't understand the translation with θα πρέπει να πάω...I thought it referred to the future, in other words..I will have to go! Thanks a lot for your precious help! |
