The Mayor
and the members of Lapithos Municipality in 1948. Lapithos Municipality
was incorporated in 1878, soon after Cyprus was transferred to United
Kingdom from Ottoman Empire. The municipality was formed with main duties
to better organize and modernize Lapithos society , as well as to improve
the infrastructue of the town, and the well-being of Lapithos Citizens,
both Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

The plaza
outside the municipality of Lapithos was dedicated to the Heroes of
Lapithos. Lapithos Municipality offices were on the first floor, where
there were operating as Taxes Administration offices as well, while the
Lapithos Municipal Food Market, which was also under the administration of
Lapithos Municipality, was operating on the Ground floor of Lapithos
Municipality building.

The

In 1974 Lapithos Municipality employed Phriksos Kaimakkamis, Theodoros
Hadjinikolis, Takis Diaouris, Andreas Ioannou, Efstathios Efstathiou, and
the permanent labor worker Costas Diaouris.

A small
natural water fall opposite Lapithos Municipality in now occupied
Lapithos. The Lapithos Public Municipal Park was a creation of Mayor
Phidias Paraskeuaides (1949) and was pioneer in Cyprus. It included a park
with many wild and domesticated animals, artificial springs, flowers of
all kinds, trees, and recreation areas.

View of Lapithos Municipality in Occupied Lapithos. Lapithos Municipality
was the center of administrative activities in Lapithos offering a full
spectrul of services to all Citizens of Lapithos and made Lapithos one of
the most modern and advanced areas in Cyprus before the 1974 barbarian
Turkish invasion.
