In the first letter Evaggelis Athanasi is requesting permission from the commander of Famagusta to play his violin in his coffee shop at Lapathos during a festive celebration at a time where gathering of more than 7 persons without prior permit was considered to be a riot against the British colonial government of Cyprus. These Draconian measures were imposed against the Greek Cypriots by the British colonial rulers after the unsuccessful October 1931 uprising of the Cypriots demanding self-governance and self-determination. |

In the second letter Andreas Liasi from Lapathos is writing to the Colonial Commander of Famagusta requesting that his appointment as "Azas" of Lapathos (minor administrative position) be withdrawn and that the Commander appoints another person for that post due to Andreas' inability to carry out the duties involved. |

In the third letter, the people of Lapathos are writing to the Colonial Commander of Famagusta requesting a loan of wheat after a prolonged 2-year drought that had destroyed their produce. In their letter the villagers of Lapathos are requesting the immediate grant of the loan otherwise the consequences would be catastrophic. The letter is then signed by all farmers each designating the amount of wheat he/ she requires in order to seed their wheat fields.

In the fourth letter, the people of Lapathos are writing again to the Colonial Commander of Famagusta requesting a further loan of wheat after a prolonged drought and sudden flooding that had destroyed their produce. The level of literacy at those times was minimal thus you can see the numerous grammatical and syntactical errors contained in the letter. However, the letter depicts the agony of the villagers of Lapathos as to their future. They point out to the commander that the big wheat merchants at the time refused them any loans are requesting the immediate grant of the loan otherwise the consequences would be catastrophic to both them, their families but also to the government since the government will not be able to collect any taxes out of them the next year. The letter is then signed by all farmers of Lapathos both Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
