Oroklini

Xylophagou river

 One of the areas of Cyprus that has developed rapidly is that between Larnaca and Dhekelia . As a young boy I took a photograph of Oroklini with my first Box Brownie . Some sixty years later I retraced my steps and was amazed at the contrast between this modest little village which retains its curiously oriental atmosphere , and the sophistication of the luxurious hotels , houses and villas that now stud six miles of coastal belt .

 '...We rode all the afternoon along the shore , reaching the village of Ormidia at dark and there we rested most of the night . We rode the next morning , more than an hour before dawn , passed Xilofago , then Cape St. Giorgio , and a stream which runs into the sea west of the cape , where many vessels , especially pirates , touch to get water , and the day was still young when we got to the village , called like the church , Agia Nappa ....
