The monastery was built by St. Helena when after the discovery of the True Cross she landed in Cyprus at Vasilopotamos (Royal or Queen's river). 'There in a vision, an angel commanded her to build a church in the name of the Venerable and Life-giving Cross and to put in it a piece of the Holy Wood which she carried.' This picture was taken early in 1950. The massive rock on the left of the monastery has since tumbled down. |
