At Gourri village |

'The church is dedicated to St. George. The village takes its name from the great medieval family of Gourri. Their coat-of-arms, a sun displayed, is found in several places in the island, Famagusta, Kellia etc. One of the members of the family was Jacques du Gourri, Visconte of Nicosia, who was a great supporter of Queen Charlotte. He was assassinated in 1457 by the Queen's half-brother, James II, the last King of Cyprus.' R. Gunnis Historic Cyprus (1936) |
