Preface
This book by Reno Wideson is the realization of a life-long dream , a presentation of his beloved mother country , the way it used to be and the way it is today . As he puts it himself - a photographic essay and a tribute to ' Cyprus Eternal ' . Images of a Lifetime contains nearly 500 photographs , taken in all seasons over the past 42 years ; a lifetime's work on a much loved subject by an accomplished photographer . For those of us who have known Cyprus intimately it will give the opportunity for a nostalgic journey down memory lane . For those who have not as yet had the chance to visit or know the island , this book may be the start of an interesting and rewarding relationship with the island of Aphrodite . The photographs are presented in a sequence which follows the path of numerous journeys all over Cyprus and are accompanied by brief factual captions identifying the subjects and their position on the island . The text consists of notes from Reno's personal diaries , as well as excerpts from the writtings of authors and travellers who visited Cyprus and recorded their comments , from antiquity to the recent past . |
