Every Wednesday afternoon at 10 Pithonos Street, Nicosia, the Collectors' Centre auctions a variety of items such as stamps old maps, coins and rare books, which is an ideal venue for those wishing to enrich their collections. Boating enthusiasts will be interested to know that there is a boat-building industry in Cyprus mainly specialising in fibre-glass speedboats. Contact your local marina or look in the yellow pages for a company in your area. Diving gear can also be bought here along with camping equipment. Specialist shops stock a full range of both locally made and imported items. One of the perks of travelling abroad has always been buying duty free items. Once confined to tobacco, alcohol and perfumes, duty free shopping now embraces a whole host of articles. Always popular in
a) the purchase is restricted to one unit from each commodity, b) the warehousing CIF value of the unit exceeds 100.00CPounds and e) an export entry form (c.41) supported by the relevant export licence, (form C.D.3) is produced to the proper customs officer at the time of departure. Note that two or more items which normally constitute one unit may be treated as one commodity. At Limassol and Larnaka ports there are also duty free shops supplying duty free commodities to departing sea passengers. Similarly, at Larnaka and Pafos airports there are duty free shops for departing passengers offering tobacco, liquor, perfumes, watches, cameras and electrical appliances, for that last minute shopping.
