Vision

The Centre's drive for excellence is sustained and accelerated through the following interdependent and mutually reinforcing actions:
  • The attraction and retention of highest calibre human resources.
  • The use of treatment protocols and the practice of evidence-based medicine.
  • Site specialisation.
  • The systematic application of quality management and medical audit.
  • The laying down and adherence to the highest standards of ethics.
  • The undertaking of research and of continuing medical education for its own staff as well as for all involved with cancer.
All clinical, research and educational work will be carried out in an environment of modern methods and hospital management systems.

The high quality buildings and equipment will be continually upgraded so that improvements, technologies and equipment, which add value to the Centre, are introduced without delay.

Comprehensive cancer care will be achieved through a network of alliances and collaborative relations with professionals and institutions, public and private, involved with cancer.

Links with centres and research organisations abroad are an important component of the strategy for continuous upgrading. All links will support the Centre's aim for excellence.

The patient comes first. Staff attitude, reception procedures and all other elements of the service to patients will serve this aim.

Basic principles

The Centre follows five basic principles:
  • The patient comes first. All activity, above personal preferences and/or interests, will serve this aim.
  • Uniform high standards of care for all cancer patients.
  • The patients' care is the result of co-operation and teamwork involving the doctors, nursing, paramedical and other staff of the Centre.
  • The formation of the Site Specialization Units in which malignant diseases are treated by specific consultants so that deeper specialisation be promoted together with the undertaking of research.
  • Regulated policy for the utilisation of drugs, laboratory and imaging and diagnostic examinations. This aim is achieved with the development and adoption of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Policy Guidelines at the Centre.
