CONNECTION PROBLEMS

1. | Q. | I am trying to make a connection and the following message appears on my screen :"There is no dial tone". |
| A. | This means that your modem can't see an active telephone line.
The most obvious cause is that you may have forgotten to plug your telephone line into your modem. If this is the case, then plug it in and try again. Otherwise, the telephone cable itself may be damaged. To test the cable, connect it on another working modem,
if it is available, and try to connect to CYTANET. It
is also a good idea to check the phone line itself. Place an ordinary telephone device in the socket and make an ordinary call. If it doesn't work, call
197 and report the fault.
A common mistake is plugging your telephone line into the wrong jack on your modem. Many modems have two jacks, one for the telephone line and one for a telephone handset.
Another common problem occurs when some other device that is connected on the same telephone line (e.g.
a telephone answering mashine) is off-hook. |

2. | Q. | Trumpret Winsock gives the error message "No carrier" when trying to make a connection. |
| A.
| It means that your modem cannot establish a connection because of: -1. Wrong modem connection speed . To correct this
select the File menu from the Trumpet window and then Setup. In the screen that appears insert the speed defined for your modem in the field Baud Rate.(See also the Istallation and Configuration manual at
page 3),
-2. Wrong protocol selection. At the screen that appears make sure that
the Internal PPP box is selected. Select the File menu from the Trumpet window, and then Setup.
-3. Faulty telephone line, Check if your telephone line is working by placing a telephone device at the telephone socket and make an ordinary call. If it's not working call 197 to report the fault.
-4. Faulty modem. Replace your modem with another one and try to connect again. If you manage to connect then your first modem was faulty and you need to contact your supplier.

-2. Faulty telephone line. To check your telephone line, place a telephone device at the telephone socket and make an ordinary call. If it doesn't work call 197 to report the fault.

4. | Q. | At Windows 95 the message "Modem is not responding" appears. |
| A. |
This means that the modem is not installed
properly or the modem is faulty or the communication port defined is wrong.
To correct this, -Go to CYTAnet icon in Dialup Networking
-Click with the right button of the mouse on the icon and select Properties,
-Go to "select a modem" and make sure that the appropriate type of modem is installed with the correct baud rate.
Also, check the configuration of your modem.
If it's an Internal modem then it should be connected at COM3 or COM4
else if it's an External modem it should be connected at COM1 or COM2. To check this, goto Properties, then
press the Configure... button and you will get a dialog box. Click on the General tab and at "port" select the option that matches your needs. If
you are using an external modem make sure it's switched on. |

6. | Q. | The error message "Authorization Failed" appears at the Post-Dial Terminal Screen (Black Screen) . |
| A. | This message means that you don't have access to Cytanet at that time. One reason for this may be unpaid bills. When this message appears contact the CytaNet Call Centre at 08008080. |
