In 1984, a decade after the Turkish invasion and occupation of the northern part of Cyprus, the Bank of Cyprus - the oldest banking institution of the island (established 1899) - in recognition of the definitive role which it could play in the preservation and dissemination of the civilisation of Cyprus, established the Cultural Foundation of the Bank of Cyprus, the first non-profit making organisation financed by a banking institution of Cyprus. |

The philosophy and policy of the Foundation is to promote studies on Cyprus
at a professional and scholarly level. All projects are aimed at extending the
study of the history and culture of Cyprus as an island of the wider Hellenic world.
