The Higher Education Statistical Agency (HESA) recently produced its digest of statistics for the academic year 1998/99. The figures show that, remarkably, Cyprus is the thirteenth biggest market for UK higher education, an astonishing statistic considering the population of the island. Cypriot students in Britain last year outnumbered those from India, China, Taiwan, Canada and Turkey. Cypriots studying in Britain have increased by almost 35% in five years, from 2623 in 1995/96 to 33531 in 1999/00. The increase has been in all areas. Undergraduates increased to 2429 from 1680 and students following taught postgraduate courses went up to 1102 from 943. Overall, the European Union is the biggest provider of students to Britain, accounting for 45% of the market share. Cyprus is the sixth biggest non-EU provider, behind Malaysia, the USA, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. How could Education Counselling Service help you?
