[Telethon 99]
Telethon 99 was another great success, with a record of £487.000 in pledges. A great thanks to everyone who helped make this another successful TELETHON year!
[Open Day] |
The Telethon Organizing Committee had set 2 major goals to be accomplished from Telethon 99. The first goal was to inform the public of the problems that affect the patients with neurological and genetic diseases and of the work, that is being carried out at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics (CING), in the areas of services and research.
|
This goal was achieved through televised and radio broadcast interviews, as well as public speeches given by members of staff, the Board of Directors, the Telethon Organizing Committee and co-organizers. The interviews and speeches informed the public about the wide range of services offered at CING, as well as the numerous research programs that are currently in progress.

The second goal was to financially support the research programs carried out at CING on neurological and genetic diseases. In this respect, Telethon succeeded by gathering pledges of approximately £487.000. It is worth mentioning that Hellenic Bank and the Company KEO, donated £40.000 and £15.000 respectively, while the President of the Republic of Cyprus, donated £50.000.
|
Much of Telethon's success was due to the active participation of the President's wife and Patron of the Cyprus Foundation for Muscular Dystrophy Research, Mrs. Lila-Irini Clerides.
The success of this year's Telethon was also due to the sponsorship of the Hellenic Bank, as well as the significant contribution of its staff towards the organization of Telethon. Telethon is also grateful to the members of the Lions Clubs, the Cyprus Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Association of Friends of the CING, ANT 1 TV, the CING staff members, and all the other volunteers that worked hard towards its success. Finally, we would like to note the wonderful and hearty response of the Cypriots, all over the world to our Telethon that makes it possible for CING to be a unique research centre in Cyprus and to offer better services to patients with neurological and genetic disorders. As a result CING can continue contributing towards the international effort for a better quality of life, without neurological and genetic disorders.
