On European markets this salad crop suffers from confusion due to the different use of its name. Cyprus refers to the crop in the same way as the British namely the crinkly lettuce, the French call it chicory. High in vitamin content, this item is a new addition to the salad range demanded by the public, and Cyprus growers are concentrating on the curly leafed variety. |

The greater interest in ethnic food and the substantial Asian population in the United Kingdom have meant that Cyprus producers have been able to introduce a whole new range of crops to the export market.
Many were originally grown as a result of experimentation with importers who came to the island to find opportunities, Growers responded, often with crops which meant that they too had to learn a new expertise.
Many are now regularly shipped to markets in London and the Midlands, usually to order.
