The Cyprus Government Offers Financial Aid to Afghanistan

On Monday December 16th,
the Cyprus Government provided the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
with financial aid to the tune of 80.000 US dollars in an effort to support a
special committee, formed to draft a new constitution for Afghanistan.
The financial assistance was presented by
Cyprus
' Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Sotos Zackheos to the UNDP
Administrator Marc Malloch Brown in the presence of
Afghanistan
's Permanent Representative to the UN and other UNDP officials.
Ambassador Zackheos noted that
the financial aid being offered by the
Cyprus
government indicates
Cyprus
’ belief in the principle of legality and expressed the hope that
Afghanistan
will proceed on the difficult road of reconstruction, progress and improvement.
In turn, Mr. Brown thanked the Ambassador for
Cyprus
’ contribution to
Afghanistan
stressing the important role that
Cyprus
plays in the international arena.
