Cyprus Supports peaceful solution in Iraq
February 20, 1998
On February 19, Government Spokesman Manolis Christofides stated that Cyprus supported a peaceful solution to the Iraq crisis and considered the visit of UN Secretary-General Mr. Kofi Annan to Baghdad a golden opportunity to defuse the crisis through diplomatic means.
"We stand by the UN Secretary-General in his difficult mission," Government Spokesman told his daily press briefing and added that "UN and especially Security Council resolutions should be fully respected."
The Spokesman stressed that "the international community has the obligation to support the UN in their effort to implement UN resolutions and decisions."
