Government Spokesman on G8 Statement on Cyprus
Geneva, 24 July 2000
The Government Spokesman, Mr. Michalis
Papapetrou, made today the following statement in Geneva where is currently
attending the proximity talks:
“The Government wishes to express its satisfaction with the G-8’s reference on Cyprus. This in itself places the Cyprus problem among the major problems with which the international community and the most powerful nations of the world are concerned.
The paragraph on Cyprus notes in particular the need for a settlement giving full consideration to the United Nations Security Council resolutions, and refers to an undivided Cyprus.
This positive reference by the G-8 was the result of intensive coordinated diplomatic efforts by the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Cyprus.”
