Minister
of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mr. Nicos A. Rolandis discusses
Cyprus - US cooperation with the US Ambassador to Cyprus Mr. Michael Klosson
Minister
of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mr. Nicos Rolandis met today with US
Ambassador to Cyprus Mr. Michael Klosson, with whom he exchanged views on
Cyprus-US cooperation in the fields of technology, trade and tourism.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Rolandis said trade between the two
countries was "at quite a high level, reaching about 400 million dollars
per annum", most of it in the form of exports from the US to Cyprus.
He also referred to the sale of "halloumi" in the American market
which shows an increasing trend.
With regards to tourism, Minister Rolandis said that he briefed the American
Ambassador about our efforts to attract tourists from USA and he exchanged views
with the Ambassador on the prospect of a flight connection between Cyprus
and USA (through Beirut).
The third issue we discussed, Mr.Rolandis stated, was the promotion of high tech industries in Cyprus through the institution of business incubators for which we are in contact with Academic Institutions in USA and on 21 October he will sign the first agreement for cooperation in the field of technology with an american university.
