Consumer Price Index for the Month of July, 2002

The Consumer Price Index for July 2002 decreased by 0,80 units or 0,72% to 110,08 units compared to 110,88 in June 2002. This is mainly due to decreases in the prices of clothing and footwear due to summer sales discounts, in the prices of motor-cars due to decreases in excise duties as well as to decreases in the prices of certain fresh fruit. Increases have been recorded in the prices of petroleum products due to increases in the excise duties and to other goods and services due to an increase in the value added tax from 10% to 13%.

  1. For the period January-July 2002 the CPI recorded an increase of 2,58% compared to the corresponding period of 2001. The rate of increase of the Index for July 2002 compared to July 2001 was 3,32%.
