Tourism and Travel Statistics April, 2000
  1. The Statistical Service announces that in April 2000 the number of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including excursionists) reached 283.470 recording an increase of 19,6% compared to the corresponding month last year. For the period January-April 2000 arrivals of travellers reached 697.934 compared to 615.829 in the corresponding period of 1999, recording an increase of 13,3%.
  2. Arrivals of tourists reached 221.785 in April 2000 compared to 180.076 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 23,2%. For the period January-April 2000 arrivals of tourists reached 508.068 compared to 438.353 in the corresponding period of 1999, i.e. an increase of 15,9%.

    The main countries of tourist arrivals in April 2000 were the United Kingdom with 42,3%, Germany with 12,2%, Greece with 5,1%, Russia with 4,6%, Sweden with 4,6%, Switzerland with 3,9%, France with 2,8% and Netherlands with 2,8%. The overwhelming majority, 79,4% of tourist arrivals was from countries of the European Union.
  3. In April 2000, 42.009 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad compared to 42.520 in the corresponding month last year. For the period January-April 2000, 149.285 residents returned from a trip abroad compared to 143.986 in the corresponding period last year recording an increase of 3,7%.
  4. In April 2000 the number of same-day visitors reached 16.429 of which 1.204 were same-day tourists and 15.225 excursionists. Long-term immigrants numbered 889 and short-term immigrants 2.357.
