Tourism and
Travel Statistics December, 2001 |
- The Statistical Service announces that in December 2001 the number of
arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including excursionists)
reached 122.663 recording a decrease of 14,2% compared to the
corresponding month last year. For the period January-December 2001
arrivals of travellers reached 3.564.998 compared to 3.534.880 in the
corresponding period of 2000, recording an increase of 0,9%.
Arrivals of tourists reached 74.887 in December 2001 compared to 93.722 in
the corresponding month last year, recording a decrease of 20,1%. For the
period January-December 2001 arrivals of tourists reached 2.696.732
compared to 2.686.205 in the corresponding period of 2000, i.e. an
increase of 0,4%.
The main countries of tourist arrivals in December 2001 were the United
Kingdom with 50,3%, Greece with 10,5%, Germany with 9,4%, Russia with
3,9%, United States of America with 1,9%, Finland with 1,7% and
Switzerland with 1,6%. The overwhelming majority, 78,9% of tourist
arrivals was from countries of the European Union.
- In December 2001, 45.033 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip
abroad compared to 41.297 in the corresponding month last year. For the
period January-December 2001, 684.197 residents returned from a trip
abroad compared to 587.622 in the corresponding period last year recording
an increase of 16,4%.
- In December 2001 the number of same-day visitors reached 1.349 of
which 526 were same-day tourists and 823 excursionists. Long-term
immigrants numbered 898 and short-term immigrants 276.
