and Travel Statistics November, 2001 |
- The Statistical Service announces that in November 2001 the number
of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including
excursionists) reached 147.705 recording a decrease of 22,5% compared to
the corresponding month last year. For the period January-November 2001
arrivals of travellers reached 3.442.335 compared to 3.391.902 in the
corresponding period of 2000, recording an increase of 1,5%.
- Arrivals of tourists reached 107.454 in November 2001 compared to
133.500 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of
19,5%. For the period January-November 2001 arrivals of tourists reached
2.621.845 compared to 2.592.482 in the corresponding period of 2000,
i.e. an increase of 1,1%.
The main countries of tourist arrivals in November 2001 were the United
Kingdom with 54,9%, Germany with 15,2%, Greece with 4,3%, Russia with
4,1%, Finland with 2,4%, Sweden with 2,3% and Switzerland with 1,9%. The
overwhelming majority, 85,2% of tourist arrivals was from countries of
the European Union.
- In November 2001, 32.342 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip
abroad compared to 33.235 in the corresponding month last year. For the
period January-November 2001, 639.164 residents returned from a trip
abroad compared to 546.324 in the corresponding period last year
recording an increase of 17,0%.
- In November 2001 the number of same-day visitors reached 6.177 of
which 1.059 were same-day tourists and 5.188 excursionists. Long-term
immigrants numbered 991 and short-term immigrants 524.
