1. The Statistical Service announces that in January 2001 the number of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including excursionists) reached 112.417 recording an increase of 4,5% compared to the corresponding month last year.
2. Arrivals of tourists reached 65.304 in January 2001 compared to 63.553 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 2,8%.
   
   The main countries of tourists arrivals in January 2001 were the United Kingdom with 51,1%, Germany with 8,7%, Greece with 7,1%, Russia with 5,7%, Israel with 2,5%, the United States of America with 1,9% and Netherlands with 1,8%. The overwhelming majority, 76,1% of tourists arrivals was from countries of the European Union.
3. 3. In January 2001, 41.692 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad compared to 37.857 in the corresponding month last year recording an increase of 10,1%.
4. 4. In January 2001 the number of same-day visitors reached 2.745 of which 502 were same-day tourists and 2.243 excursionists. Long-term immigrants numbered 2.168 and short-term immigrants 356.
