The Statistical Service announces that in February
2001 the number of arrivals covering all categories of travellers
(including excursionists) reached 125.967 recording an increase of
1,2% compared to the corresponding month last year. For the period
January-February 2001 arrivals of travellers reached 238.384 compared
to 232.107 in the corresponding period of 2000, recording an increase
of 2,7%.

Arrivals of tourists reached 86.447 in February
2001 compared to 87.243 in the corresponding month last year,
recording a slight decrease of 0,9%. For the period January-February
2001 arrivals of tourists reached 151.751 compared to 150.796 in the
corresponding period of 2000, i.e. an increase of 0,6%.
The main countries of tourist arrivals in February 2001 were the
United Kingdom with 50,6%, Germany with 11,0%, Greece with 8,0%,
Russia with 3,7%, Switzerland with 2,2%, Netherlands with 2,1% and
France with 1,8%. The overwhelming majority, 81,4% of tourist arrivals
was from countries of the European Union.

In February 2001, 33.792 residents of Cyprus
returned from a trip abroad compared to 32.105 in the corresponding
month last year. For the period January-February 2001, 75.485
residents returned from a trip abroad compared to 69.962 in the
corresponding period last year recording an increase of 7,9%.

In February 2001 the number of same-day visitors
reached 3.055 of which 878 were same-day tourists and 2.177
excursionists. Long-term immigrants numbered 1.873 and short-term
immigrants 659.
