- The Statistical Service announces that in July 2000 the number of
arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including
excursionists) reached 464.419 recording an increase of 15,3% compared
to the corresponding month last year. For the period January-July 2000
arrivals of travellers reached 1.914.140 compared to 1.667.707 in the
corresponding period of 1999, recording an increase of 14,8%.
- Arrivals of tourists reached 362.299 in July 2000 compared to
322.041 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of
12,5%. For the period January-July 2000 arrivals of tourists reached
1.471.734 compared to 1.310.592 in the corresponding period of 1999,
i.e. an increase of 12,3%.
The main countries of tourist arrivals in July 2000 were the United
Kingdom with 51,7%, Germany with 5,6%, Russia with 5,4%, Sweden with
5,4%, Greece with 3,2%, Norway with 2,9% and Switzerland with 2,8%.
The overwhelming majority, 77,6% of tourist arrivals was from
countries of the European Union.
- In July 2000, 71.731 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad
compared to 61.340 in the corresponding month last year. For the
period January-July 2000, 318.513 residents returned from a trip
abroad compared to 281.772 in the corresponding period last year
recording an increase of 13,0%.
- In July 2000 the number of same-day visitors reached 27.151 of which
1.888 were same-day tourists and 25.263 excursionists. Long-term
immigrants numbered 1.202 and short-term immigrants 2.035.
