Tourism and Travel Statistics July, 2001
  1. The Statistical Service announces that in July 2001 the number of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including excursionists) reached 482.877 recording an increase of 4,0% compared to the corresponding month last year. For the period January-July 2001 arrivals of travellers reached 2.029.843 compared to 1.914.140 in the corresponding period of 2000, recording an increase of 6,0%.
  2. Arrivals of tourists reached 373.385 in July 2001 compared to 362.299 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 3,1%. For the period January-July 2001 arrivals of tourists reached 1.570.989 compared to 1.471.734 in the corresponding period of 2000, i.e. an increase of 6,7%.

    The main countries of tourist arrivals in July 2001 were the United Kingdom with 55,4%, Sweden with 5,2%, Germany with 5,0%, Russia with 4,8%, Norway with 3,1%, Switzerland with 3,0% and Greece with 2,9%, and The overwhelming majority, 80,4% of tourist arrivals was from countries of the European Union.
  3. In July 2001, 90.058 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad compared to 71.731 in the corresponding month last year. For the period January-July 2001, 356.915 residents returned from a trip abroad compared to 318.513 in the corresponding period last year recording an increase of 12,1%.
  4. In July 2001 the number of same-day visitors reached 17.151 of which 2.313 were same-day tourists and 14.838 excursionists. Long-term immigrants numbered 1.453 and short-term immigrants 507.
