Tourism and Travel Statistics June, 2001
  1. The Statistical Service announces that in June 2001 the number of arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including excursionists) reached 413.278 recording an increase of 8,8% compared to the corresponding month last year. For the period January-June 2001 arrivals of travellers reached 1.546.966 compared to 1.449.721 in the corresponding period of 2000, recording an increase of 6,7%.
     
  2. Arrivals of tourists reached 322.835 in June 2001 compared to 302.011 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 6,9%. For the period January-June 2001 arrivals of tourists reached 1.197.604 compared to 1.109.435 in the corresponding period of 2000, i.e. an increase of 8,0%.

    The main countries of tourist arrivals in June 2001 were the United Kingdom with 57,1%, Sweden with 6,0%, Germany with 5,8%, Russia with 4,8%, Norway with 2,9%, Switzerland with 2,7% and Greece with 2,3%. The overwhelming majority, 82,1% of tourist arrivals was from countries of the European Union.
     
  3. In June 2001, 67.386 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad compared to 48.771 in the corresponding month last year. For the period January-June 2001, 266.857 residents returned from a trip abroad compared to 246.782 in the corresponding period last year recording an increase of 7,5%.
     
  4. In June 2001 the number of same-day visitors reached 19.366 of which 1.938 were same-day tourists and 17.428 excursionists. Long-term immigrants numbered 2.047 and short-term immigrants 1.072.
