and Travel Statistics March, 2001 |
- The Statistical Service announces that in March 2001 the number of
arrivals covering all categories of travellers (including
excursionists) reached 188.731 recording an increase of 3,5% compared
to the corresponding month last year. For the period January-March
2001 arrivals of travellers reached 427.115 compared to 414.464 in the
corresponding period of 2000, recording an increase of 3,1%.
- Arrivals of tourists reached 141.663 in March 2001 compared to
135.487 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of
4,6%. For the period January-March 2001 arrivals of tourists reached
293.414 compared to 286.283 in the corresponding period of 2000, i.e.
an increase of 2,5%.
The main countries of tourist arrivals in March 2001 were the
United Kingdom with 45,6%, Germany with 15,3%, Greece with 6,8%,
Russia with 3,8%, Sweden with 2,6%, Netherlands with 2,2%, Finland
with 2,0% and Ireland with 1,9%. The overwhelming majority, 83,2% of
tourist arrivals was from countries of the European Union.
- In March 2001, 35.582 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip
abroad compared to 37.313 in the corresponding month last year. For
the period January-March 2001, 111.067 residents returned from a
trip abroad compared to 107.275 in the corresponding period last
year recording an increase of 3,5%.
- In March 2001 the number of same-day visitors reached 7.997 of
which 915 were same-day tourists and 7.082 excursionists. Long-term
immigrants numbered 1.706 and short-term immigrants 1.603.
