The Statistical Service announces that it has issued the report "Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-December 2000.

2. The main developments in the registration of motor vehicles during 2000 compared to the 1999, were as follows:

(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles during 2000 decreased by 5,3% to 32.165 from 33.973 vehicles in 1999.

(b) Private saloon cars decreased by 6,5% in 2000 to 17.729 from 18.966 in 1999. Of the total private saloon cars 7.103 vehicles or 40,1% were new and 10.626 vehicles or 59,9% were used vehicles.

(c) Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 2,5% to 6.924 in 2000 compared to 6.752 in 1999. Light goods vehicles increased by 2,0% to 6.240 and heavy goods vehicles increased by 7,9% to 684 in 2000.

(d) Mechanised cycles decreased by 14,2% and totalled 5.410 in 2000 compared to 6.302 in 1999.
