The Statistical Service announces that it has issued the report
"Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-December 2001.
2. The main developments in the registration of motor vehicles during
2001 compared to the 2000, were as follows:
(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles during 2001
increased by 18,4% to 38.075 from 32.165 vehicles in 2000.
(b) Private saloon cars increased by 19,4% in 2001 to 21.164
from 17.729 in 2000. Of the total private saloon cars 7.562 vehicles or
35,7 were new and 13.602 vehicles or 64,3% were used vehicles.
(c) Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 15,9% to 8.023 in
2001 compared to 6.924 in 2000. Light goods vehicles increased by 16,2% to
7.249 and heavy goods vehicles increased by 13,2% to 774 in 2001.
(d) Self-drive cars registrations recorded a significant
increase (155,5%) and reached 3.248 in 2001 compared to 1.271 in 2000.
(e) Mechanised cycles decreased by 12,1% and totalled 4.756 in
2001 compared to 5.410 in 2000.
