The Statistical Service announces that it has issued the report 
      "Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-September 2001.
    2. The main developments in the first nine months of 2001 compared to the 
    same period of 2000, were:
    
        (a) The total registrations of motor vehicles during the first nine 
        months of 2001 increased by 18,3% to 29.721 from 25.129 vehicles in the 
        same period of 2000.
        (b) Private saloon cars increased to 16.033 from 13.510 last year 
        (January-September) i.e. there was an increase of 18,7%. Of the total 
        private saloon cars 5.951 vehicles or 37,1% were new and 10.082 vehicles 
        or 62,9% were used vehicles.
        (c) Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 20,1% to 6.225 from last 
        year’s 5.182 vehicles. Light goods vehicles increased by 20,0% to 5.600 
        and heavy goods vehicles increased by 21,6% to 625 in January-September 
        2001.
        (d) Mechanised cycles decreased by 16,5% and totalled 3.924 compared 
        to 4.699 in January-September 2000.
