2. The main developments in the first six months of 1999 compared to the same period of
1998, were:
(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles during the first six months of 1999
decreased by 9,2% to 17.877 from 19.688 vehicles in the same period of 1998.
(b) Private saloon cars decreased to 9.716 from 11.709 last year (January-June) i.e.
there was a decrease of 17,0%. Of the total private saloon cars 3.188 vehicles or 32,8%
were new and 6.528 vehicles or 67,2% were used vehicles.
(c) Goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 4,6% to 3.713 from last year/s 3.891
vehicles. Light goods vehicles decreased by 8,2% to 3.358 and heavy goods vehicles
increased to 355 in January-June 1999.
(d) Mechanised cycles increased by 20,2% and totalled 3.193 compared to 2.657 in
January-June 1998.
